Two rumours are
currently doing the rounds, and they are quite related. One is that BMW is
preparing a 3 Series GT, which is
similar in concept to the existing 5 Series GT. The other rumour is that
this particular car is going to be launched this coming March at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show.
A 3 Series GT is obviously a cross between a wagon and an SUV, something of a family
crossover. It is said to feature
similar loading space as the 5 GT (which
isn’t saying much to be honest), but more legroom space. The main direct competitor
in this regard will be the A5 Sportback
range.
Engines will echo what we see in the new 3 Series sedan range, namely 2.0-litre turbo petrol
and diesel, as well as the 3.0-litre
turbo diesels and petrols. While a 330kW-plus
M3/ M4 GT is theoretically possible, it cannot be guaranteed because the 5 GT
has no M variant planned.
