MCLAREN SHOWS PICS OF NEW LONDON DEALERSHIP


The very first ever McLaren dealership will be open in the UK on the 21st of June 2011. McLaren London will be company’s flagship retail shop, and one of 35 in 19 countries. The Mzansi dealership will start selling the MP4-12C later this year from its Sandton premises. Later other models will be added to the lineup as McLaren faces off with Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini.

Fiat 500 ranks first in the "Vehicle Owner Satisfaction Study" by J. D. Power and Associates, the well-known agency that since 2002 has been conducting market surveys to determine how much German motorists are satisfied with their cars and their brands. The prestigious award ceremony was staged in Berlin yesterday at the Axel Springer publishing house.

LUMMA DESIGN SHOWS NEW PORSCHE CAYENNE KIT





LUMMA Design has unveiled this second rendition of the Porsche Cayenne. LUMMA has not released any engine upgrade details, so we can assume that none have been made. Yet. All there is is this exterior kit that makes it look so purposeful that even the heartiest sports coupe would probably give way as soon it saw it romping down the freeway.

JAGUAR PLANNING EVEN HOTTER XFR AND XKR CONVERTIBLE?

Jaguar is reportedly preparing even hotter versions of its XFR and XKR Convertible models. A blazing XKR-S was unveiled in February this year with its 405kW engine. Naturally the XF should benefit, and Auto Express reports that indeed it does.

DAIMLER MIGHT SELL MAYBACH



Daimler may sell or discontinue its ultra-luxurious Maybach brand. While its chief competitors Rolls-Royce and Bentley are pushing out well over 1200 units per year, Maybach only sold 157 cars in 2010. The brand was resurrected in 2002 with the 57 and 62 models, positioned above the S-Class. Before then it had been produced from 1921 to 1945.

BMW RACING TO GO LIGHT ON CARBON FIBRE

BMW is racing against time to become the world’s first mass producer of carbon fibre parts used for cars. The company formed a joint venture last year with the SGL Group of Germany to produce carbon fibre parts for small cars. It is understood the all-electric i3 which begins production in 2013, will be first to benefit from these hard plastics.

KELVIN VAN DER LINDE SAILS INTO DOMINATION

Kelvin van der Linde, rapidly becoming something of a wunderkind in national championship circuit racing at the age of 14, clearly enjoys the spectator-friendly Zwartkops Raceway west of Pretoria.  He returned there on Saturday for his second appearance in the national Pro Tour series and, as he did in round two in March, totally dominated proceedings in round five in class B of the hotly contested Northern Regions Goldwagen Challenge for Volkswagen Golfs.

CRONJE, HOUGHTON, POWERED TO FIRST VICTORY


Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton powered their Team Sasol Ford Fiesta to a dominant win on the Toyota Dealer Gauteng Rally, round 4 of the SA Rally Championship.  It was Team Sasol’s - and Robin Houghton’s - maiden win, made all the more impressive by the 90 second victory margin after taking the fastest time on six of the event’s 14 stages.
