BMW ROSSLYN PLANT STARTS 2012 3 SERIES PRODUCTION

BMW South Africa has kicked off production of the all-new 3 Series sedan. The car will be produced
at the company’s factory in Rosslyn,
north of Pretoria. BMW says it increased the number of robots at the plant from 99
to 149 in order to meet expected demand. Every 3 Series have been produced
in Rosslyn and since 1999, exported
also.

Alpina, the BMW
specialist tuner, has released details of its updated B5 BiTurbo, which is based on the current BMW 550i twin turbo. The engine used in the 550i is kept in its 4.4-litre V8 format, but power and torque are both significantly upped. In fact, Alpina previously tuned the very same car but got less
than what they’ve done this time.

FORD RANGER TO THE (SEA) RESCUE

The South African-built All-New Ford Ranger has played an
essential role in the 4x4 driver training for volunteer members of the National
Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in Port Elizabeth.
The recent course, hosted by the Adventure 4x4 Academy, was held at the Brakkeduine 4x4 Sand Trail near Humansdorp, and enabled the team of volunteers to gain vital off-road driving experience that is crucial to their sea and coastal rescue operations.

We all thought the Porsche Cajun would keep its name. Apparently not. Macan is the final production name. The baby SUV, which falls below and will be cheaper than the Cayenne,
is to begin production at the company’s Leipzig
factory in Germany. European dealerships
are expecting to receive their first consignments of the Macan in 2013. South Africa is in the same boat.
