A leaked document doing the rounds on the internet claims
that Audi is almost ready to pounce on the market with a brand new RS 4 model and will unveil it next month at Geneva. The previous RS 4 was
the first of its kind and featured a reworked 4.2-litre V8 model installed under the bonnet of either a sedan, Cabriolet
or Avant (station wagon) variant. It made a very satisfying 309kW.
Word is, the new RS 4 will only come in Avant style and also
feature a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated
V8 engine. If it’s the same one as in the RS5 then it will be good for 331kW
and 430Nm of torque. As stated in a previous story, there seems to be no plan from Audi to mate this engine with the current
sedan body, which means RS 4 stays
wagon, while RS 5 is the Coupe. The performance sedan then would remain the S4.
If the rumoured RS 4 is indeed only an Avant, we could have
a new favourite on our list. The old
car was just marvellous in all
respects and it remains one of the most memorable
cars we’ve ever driven.
