GUMPERT APOLLO SPORT SETS NEW NORDSCHLEIFE LAP RECORD

Gumpert’s Apollo Sport has apparently lapped the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring in a time of 7 minutes 11.57 seconds. This makes the Apollo Sport the fastest road-legal car around that fabled track.

Power was provided by the Audi 4.2-litre V8 engine which has been beefed up with two turbos to make out a sporting 515kW (700hp). They say the car can whistle from 0 – 200km/h in 8.9 seconds and comes with a top speed of 360km/h.

Some of the fastest times ever posted around the ‘Ring by cars approved for road use (as opposed to cars made especially for track racing) include a 7:24.7 by the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, a 7:26.7 by the 2010 Nissan GT-R and a 7:22.1 by a Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR.
