2012 OPEL ASTRA TO DEBUT IN GENEVA

The 2012 Geneva International Motor Show is almost around the corner, and Opel is very keen to show off what it’s been working on for the past couple of years. Specifically their halo car, at least in a South African context, the Astra OPC is making its debut there.

Force comes from a 2.0-litre turbo engine, which seems to be the segment standard these days (see Focus ST, Megane RS, Golf GTI / R). Instead of the old torque-steering 177kW, now even more power has been issued to the tune of 206kW and 400Nm. This makes the new upcoming Astra OPC the most powerful car in its class. The car will also feature front wheel drive (FWD) with bits called High Performance Struts and FlexRide technology, both of which are angled squarely at improving take-off, cornering and general handling aptitude.

We should see the Astra OPC in South Africa later this year, possibly before September.
