Audi’s most successful
sports car the TT, gets a completely
new shape and body in 2013. But before then it must say goodbye in the same way it said hello;
with a loud bang! Hence the introduction of the TT RS Plus, a more powerful TT RS model that’s guaranteed to scare
away more serious supercars out
there.
Based on the TT and its performance-enhanced
TT RS version, the TT RS Plus features the same 2.5-litre turbo engine with four
cylinders but with more thrust on the go. So instead of the usual plate of
250kW, it dishes out 265kW and
torque is also enhanced from 450Nm up to 465Nm.
The claimed 0 – 100km/h time of 4.1
seconds for the S tronic model
is nothing short of astounding,
considering this is “just” a TT. In fact, it makes it the quickest car in its
class, even quicker than the likes of RS
5 and RS 3 Sportback. It sends
all power and torque to all four wheels, thanks to the quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Lots of differentiators from the everyday TT RS, including a
new front grille with a diamond pattern,
19-inch wheels and carbon fibre-reinforced polymer side
mirrors
RS Plus cars aren’t new with the TT. In fact, it’s the other
way around. Back in the early 2000s, the first RS Plus appeared in the form of
an RS 6 Plus which added 22kW on the
standard car’s 331kW. Prices start
at €60 650 (R617 200) in
Germany. The old RS 6 Plus never made it to Mzansi, so we aren’t too sure the
TT RS Plus will.
