IZARO GTE CLEAN SUPERCAR: SPANISH SALSA OR SPANISH FLY?

Spain, reigning World Cup Champions, aren’t necessarily known for manufacturing world-class sports cars. Fact is, the hottest salsa from Spain comes in the form of a SEAT Leon Cupra R with 198kW. Thanks to several factors, including overpricing, SEAT pulled out of South Africa.

The Izaro GTE of course, has nothing to do with SEAT or Volkswagen. It’s apparently a name resurrected from the 1920s by the Spanish grandson of a guy who
started the Izaro Electric Company. For now all there is are these rendered sketches and projected performance figures.

The drive will be provided either by a fully-electric powertrain system or a hybrid. Izaro says it will go from 0 – 100km/h in under 4 seconds. Should electricity win the vote then we can expect a range of around 241km. The hybrid will extend that to 690km.

A price of €60 000 (about R560 000) has been placed on this non-existent supercar that seems to be very capable. We haven’t even seen clay models, let alone spy shots. Do they have a distribution network at all? Time will tell if this is something we can lay our hands on at some point or if it’s just a Spanish lulaby.
