NEW PEGUEOT 207 COMES IN BELOW C02 TAX

The Peugeot 207 subcompact hatchback has become even more environmentally friendly than before. Peugeot South Africa has recently upgraded the locally available 207 model line-up with an array of new engines, all of which now comply to the latest Euro 5 emissions standard.

While some models in the range are already fitted with Euro 5-compliant powerplants, the update brings the entire 207 family in line with the stringent European standard, which focuses on lower fuel consumption and reduced CO2 exhaust emissions.

Thus, the 207 Active Five-Door is now being fitted with Peugeot’s latest EP3C four-cylinder engine. While the power output of 70kW at 6 000rpm and torque peak of 136Nm at 4 000rpm are identical to the previous unit, urban-cycle fuel consumption has been reduced, while the CO2 emissions rating is lower, too.

The 207 1.6 HDi Dynamic Five-Door also benefits from the fitment of a new DV6C turbodiesel engine, now linked to a new 6-speed MCM transmission. Maximum power increases from 80kW at 4 000rpm to 82kW at 3 600rpm, while the torque peak has been pushed from 240Nm to 270Nm at 1 750rpm. Overboost torque jumps from 260Nm to 285Nm.

The result is an improvement in overall drivability and in-gear response, while also boosting environmental compatibility. Urban-cycle fuel consumption drops to 5.7 litres/100 km, while CO2 emissions are reduced to 119 g/km – below the upcoming CO2 emissions tax threshold.

Euro 5-compliant engines are already standard fitment on the remaining 207 models, including the TU3 engines employed in the 207 Urban, and the EP6C unit that powers the 207 Dynamic Five-Door.

While the new HDi turbodiesel engine in the 207 1.6 HDi Dynamic will add R2 000 to the retail price of the car, the existing prices of the remaining 207 derivatives have been maintained.  The 207 Active now features fog lights and front airbags only.

The appearance and standard features on most of the various 207 models also continues as unchanged, as does the combination of striking styling, high equipment levels and dynamic appeal which the nameplate has become renowned for.

The Euro 5 engine line-up is the result of a R13.5-billion investment programme over four years in Euro 5 engine technology by the PSA Group, with the objective of become a leading in low-emissions powertrains.
