AUDI RELEASES SNIPPET SHOT OF A5 SPORTBACK

Audi has released this snippet of an image plus a few details regarding the upcoming A5 Sportback. In case you are a little confused, the A5 Sportback is based on the A5 Coupe but instead of only two doors it has five (two front, two rear and one “boot”). It is built kinda like a hatchback but has a sloping rear end; the roofline is actually lower than that of the A4 sedan.

The A5 Sportback will launch in Europe in September at a base price of €36,050 (R402 000). Petrol engines provided at launch will be the 2.0 TFSI making 155kW and 350Nm and the 3.2-litre V6 with 195kW. Turbo diesels will include the 2.0 TDI of 125kW and 350Nm and the 176kW, 500Nm V6 TDI.

Audi South Africa has not said if it’s considering bringing the A5 Sportback into the country or not but the general philosophy of the company has been to introduce as much of the product available in Europe to Mzansi buyers as possible. But that was when the country was selling over 650 000 vehicles a year, and not the 300 000 we are currently facing.
