Audi and BMW, especially BMW, could be in real
trouble with the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, due here in South Africa
in April. And if they are concerned
with the A-Class, they should be even more concerned with the A 45 AMG, its supercar-killing “last number”.
The A 45 AMG,
pictured here in the first official photos to be leaked ahead of its public debut at Geneva 2013, is directed at those who liked (and could afford) the Audi RS 3 and the BMW 1 M Coupe. It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo
engine sparking off about 260kW and 450Nm of torque. Drive goes to all four
wheels through a 7-speed DCT
dual-clutch gearbox.
Mercedes-Benz South Africa has already confirmed both A-Class and the A 45 AMG as sure things
for the local market this year. From what we can see here, the AMG will attract
a whole new clientele set to
Mercedes-Benz dealerships, a clientele that previous thought the brand was for
people who no longer value the thrill
of driving.
