What better way to start the week than to the news of Audi’s
upcoming super car, the RS 7 Sportback.
That’s right folks, the brand new hi-performance
family lugger will be available in
Mzansi from August this year. At what
price though? We don’t know yet, but consider that the “lesser” S7 Sportback costs R919 600 at the till…
The Audi RS 7 Sportback employs the talents of the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 found in the
S6, RS 6 Avant, S8 and Bentley GT V8. In this application it
releases 412kW of power between
5700rpm and 6700rpm, while maximum torque of 700Nm runs between 1750rpm and 5500rpm.
Pulling on all fours via the quattro all-wheel-drive system and a Tiptronic gearbox, the RS 7 is claimed to be able to shoot off from
0 – 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds,
making it about as quick as an R8 V10!
Another incredible claim is that it will sip just 9.8 litres of 95 unleaded per 100km driven.
We should be able to test
some of these claims not long after the car is available in South Africa. But judging from previous
experiences with the four rings, they
seldom make claims they cannot keep.
