Need for Speed or
NFS fans rejoice! Your game is
finally coming to the big screen
(and subsequently, at some point in its life, to SABC1, etv and Mzansi Magic). Shooting has begun in
earnest in a collaboration between the game’s publisher Electronic Arts and DreamWorks
Studios, the movie’s producer. It will debut in the USA around March 2014.
Need for Speed will star Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots
and Dominic Cooper. Don’t stress if
you don’t immediately recognise these names. Google them first. Maybe someday they will be as well-known as
names like Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
Ford has been
chosen as the main supplier of vehicles to the flick, giving the feature a special Ford Mustang that will be
driven by Paul’s character. We are told that Need for Speed “chronicles a
near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes—one that begins as a
mission for revenge, but proves to
be one of redemption.”
There is of course a game attached to the whole thing,
called Need for Speed Rivals in
which players can choose to either be the good cops or the bad drivers evading them. The game sounds like it
will have some really exciting elements, such as automatic multiplayerbility.
It will start selling this November on
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
Thereafter it will be available on Xbox
One and PlayStation 4.
We at IN4RIDE
sincerely hope that Need for Speed the
movie makes the same great transition from game to movie as Hitman did, and does not totally flop
and disappoint in the same way the great Max
Payne did on the big screen.
