RANGE ROVER EVOQUE WINS WOMEN'S WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR





A panel of female motoring journalists from 12 countries, including South Africa, have chosen the 2012 Women’s World Car of the Year. The extremely successful Range Rover Evoque took the accolade after beating the new BMW 3 Series and Audi Q3 into second and third place respectively. The judges vote within four categories and the winner is the one with the highest score overall.


Two of Mzansi’s most experienced motoring scribes, Charlene Clarke and Helene Griffiths, took part in the voting. Surprisingly, cars normally associated with women, such as the MINI, Peugeot 207, Renault Clio and Citroen DS4 did not make top-3 spot in any category. Even more curious is the absence of an MPV category, given that these types of vehicles are usually referred to as “mama cars” or soccer moms’ cars.

Luxury Car
1st – Range Rover Evoque

Sports Car
1st – Porsche 911
2nd – Jaguar XKR
3rd – Mercedes-Benz SLK

Economy Car
1st – Honda Civic
2nd – Volkswagen Up!
3rd – Ford Fiesta

2nd – BMW 3 Series
3rd – Audi Q3
