According to the US magazine Car & Driver, Porsche
is preparing to enter the world of super
diesel-powered SUVs. A reported Cayenne
S Diesel is being mooted as the next derivative
in the Cayenne lineup. Exactly what kind of machine it will be, and what engine
can be expected, is unknown at this point.
What we do know however, is that sister brand Audi already has
a stonking super SUV diesel in the
mould of a Q7 V12 TDI. That mad motor
develops 368kW and a creamy 1000Nm of torque. IN4RIDE tested it at
Gauteng altitude back in 2010 and returned a 0 – 100km/h of 5.6 seconds.
A newer engine also exists in the VW Group. The V8 TDI found in the Touareg and A8 pulls out 258kW and 800Nm. Both would be quite suitable we
reckon, although Porsche might want to add extra power on them. Depending on
the final configuration, its direct rivals could either be the aforementioned
VW stablemates, or the new BMW X5 M50d
with 280kW and 740Nm.
