AUDI RS 4 AVANT, S4 AVANT, A4 ALLROAD FOR MZANSI

Audi A4 allroad quattro, RS 4 Avant and S4 Avant. These are some of the more interesting Audis confirmed for launch in South Africa over the coming months. According to Audi’s Mzansi spokesperson Rudi Venter, a highly limited number of S4 Avants (station wagon) will do on sale here later in the year. The order will cover about 50 units.

Just a quick go on the stats and specs of all three cars, beginning with the allroad. Mzansi has never had an A4 allroad. We only received A6 allroads back in 2001. Though they caused quite a stir in looks and performance, they weren’t very popular with buyers. That’s perhaps why Audi SA is only betting on the smaller A4 version. Although the A4 allroad comes fitted with a range of engines in Europe, Mzansi is probably only getting one or two, including a 155kW petrol model.

The S4 Avant has the same 3.0-litre supercharged V6 found in the S4 sedan. That means 245kW and 440Nm of torque, as well as a claimed 0 – 100km/h run time of around 5.4 seconds.

Most exciting will be the RS 4 Avant which blasts through in early 2013. Utilising the same 4.2-litre V8 found in the RS 5, the new RS 4 Avant (there will be no sedan) kicks out 331kW and 430Nm of torque, dispenses with the 0 – 100km/h in 4.7 seconds and only ceases accelerating at 250km/h. It will undoubtedly be one of the 3 fastest production wagons sold in Mzansi!

We don’t know what prices are attached to these cars, but from the look of things, the S4 Avant should be about R640 000, while the RS 4 Avant may cost around R800 000 stock.

I like the A6 allroad 2.7 turbo. The A4 version looks even better. One to consider, if price is right.
