A batch of photos showing the BMW 1 Series 3-door has surfaced.
These photos are actually patent drawings filed in some country by BMW. The
car is a derivative of the new 1 Series hatch, launched in Mzansi a couple of months ago. As you can see, it’s
just basically two doors less than the 5-door hatch.
And just like the 5-door, expect to see the same engines,
including the 1.6-litre turbo with 125kW
(118i) and later a 2.0-litre turbo good for 180kW (128i). Direct competitors
are the Audi A3 (new shape arriving in 2012) and Volvo C30. Hopefully the next Mercedes-Benz
A-Class will also come in 3-door. It’s
probably going to be revealed at the 2012 Geneva
International Motor Show and then launch in South Africa in the fourth quarter.
