BRAND NEW PEUGEOT 208 HATCHES OUT

Ladies and gents, here’s the brand new Peugeot 208, a car that replaces the 207. Competitors in the segment will include the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta and Toyota Yaris among others. South Africa will receive its first 208 hatches in late 2012.

One of the most interesting aspects about the 208 is that it is actually smaller than the 207, which really goes against what most manufacturers do when they introduce a new car. It’s also quite significantly lighter, losing up to 173kg on some models. And from what we can see, it has gone quite premium. Hopefully the price has not followed suit too much.

The engines don’t look too exciting though. They comprise 1.0-litre, 1.2-litre petrols, and an e-HDi micro-hybrid turbo diesel. This one should be quite good. Let’s hope the 1.6 turbo shared with MINI/ BMW will show up somewhere.
