SAUDI KING STOPS WOMAN DRIVER BEATING

Saudi Arabia king Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud has overturned a court decision that would have seen a woman lashed/ whipped 10 times for driving. The king’s decision to stop the lashing was quite a surprise and will surely have far-reaching implications for all the Saudi women who want to start driving cars themselves.

Interestingly it was only a few days ago that king Abdullah announced he was giving his country’s women the right to vote, for the first time ever. They will even be able to stand as candidates at the next municipal elections in 2015! Perhaps there is a different broom sweeping the oil-rich Middle Eastern country?

Funny that the world still wants to do business with Saudi and China despite all this. Yet, a country like North Korea because it has no oil, is treated with such disdain. Double standards we have.
