VOLKSWAGEN POLO VIVO GETS AUTOMATIC

Small cars are the future, apparently. And automatic transmissions are also the future, so it seems. To combine these two futures Volkswagen South Africa have installed a 6-speed Tiptronic gearbox into the Vivo range, for both hatchback and sedan. The automatic transmission is paired only with a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 63kW and 132Nm of torque.

All these features conspire to make the car go from 0 – 100km/h in a snail-inspired 15.5 seconds (translating to perhaps 17 seconds at Gauteng altitude) and a top speed of 172km/h. Unfortunately fuel consumption thus suffers to the tune of 6.6 litres per 100km on average, with C02 emissions of 156 g/km.

Tiptronic sedan (R146 865)
