FORD RECORDS PHENOMENAL GROWTH IN MZANSI

Ford in South Africa saw a phenomenal jump in sales during the first quarter of the year. Sales shot up 87% to a total of 16 860 Ford-branded cars between 1 January and 30 April 2011. April alone saw sales of 2 727 units. Leading the charge has been the Figo entry-level car which costs at least R116 000 at listed retail.

The Blue Oval seems to be well on its way to a good year as April sales also increased by 16.3% in the American domestic market. There they sold 189 284 Fords, behind only General Motors with 232 538 sales, but crucially ahead of Toyota which could only muster 159 540. Important to note though that the Japanese firm was crippled by parts supply issues brought on by the earthquake and tsunami of March.
