March 2011 was a good month for the Mzansi car market as it saw an upswing of 23.6% over the same month last year. Compared to February 2011, sales went up by 3.3% which is minute but still an increase nevertheless. Overall 35 167 passenger cars were sold last month. So far analysts and industry experts agree that 2011 total market sales will be between 15% and 20% higher than in 2010.

But why do Bimmer and Merc sell so many more than cheaper cars?
Because South Africans are so status conscious that anything from outside of Germany is frowned upon.
Always the usual suspects in the top ten. Where are the Peugeots, Renaults, Hyundai?
