NEW FIAT PUNTO EVO CONSIDERED FOR SA

At the Frankfurt Motor Show Fiat will present the next evolution in the Grande Punto’s life. Called the Punto Evo the car sounds like it will break all sorts of different records, including speeding ones. To set the record straight that’s probably not going to happen, given the line-up of engines envisaged. These include 1.2 8V, 1.4 8V, 1.4 16V and 1.4 T-Jet engines. Europe also has a small turbo diesel in the range.

New for the Punto Evo is a new portable Blue&Me TomTom satellite navigation system that works on a colour touch-screen. This will be the second time that TomTom is partnering with a car manufacturer after its association with Renault. But unlike the French, the Italians have not integrated this system with the dashboard.

Other systems include ABS, ESP, seven airbags, and the Start&Stop fuel-saving system. It also has adaptive cornering foglights which light up when the car turns in either direction.

The new car is longer than the current car, but the other dimensions of height, width and wheelbase remain the same.

Fiat South Africa is considering the new car for the domestic market.
