According to The Times newspaper, little Vanilla Nurse died because of a faulty window control switch in the family’s Honda Jazz. A forensic scientist who inspected the car said the fire that took Vanilla’s life almost a week ago on Wednesday started at the front right-hand side of the car when the control cluster short-circuited. The window had been problematic, by not coming up once it had been lowered. The child’s mother Camilla Colley had taken it to a Honda dealership to have it looked at.
Honda South Africa spokeswoman Joeline Dabrowski told The Times that such an incident has never been on record in any other market in the world where the Jazz has sold over 3 million units since it came to life in 2001. Some countries call it the Fit.
We actually had the Jazz on test a few weeks ago and found the car to be quite agreeable. We had no bad incidents whatsoever of any nature It’s beautiful, goes well, has a very spacious interior and is very economical. We returned an average fuel consumption of 5.2 litres per 100km from it.
Clearly this was a freak accident that should not scare off current or future Jazz buyers.
