NEW TURBO DIESELS FOR VOLVO IN EUROPE

While permanent solutions in the field of sustainable environmentally-friendly powerplants are being sought, Volvo is keeping its eye firm on the diesel target. As such two new turbo diesel engines have been announced by the Swedes. The first of these engines is a D4 single turbo 2.4D. It produces 129kW (175hp) and 420Nm of torque. Volvo says this car is able to reward a cautious driver with a 5.8 litres per 100km average when fitted to the S80.

The second engine is a D5 with two turbos of different sizes. These help the D5 make 151kW (205hp) and 420Nm of torque. This is very comparable to some of Germany’s finest compact twin-turbo diesel motors.

These two engines are to be made available in Europe in the S80, V70, XC60 and XC70 from this autumn (spring in Europe).
