MERCEDES-BENZ SLS AMG CHANGES NAME, UPS POWER

It hasn’t even been two years since it first launched, yet the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been updated and somewhat upgraded for the year 2012. In addition to increased power, SLS also gets interior refurbishments and get this, a brand new name!

First, the name. From now on, the gullwing will be known as the SLS AMG GT, which will apply to both the coupe and the topless roadster. Second, a power upgrade has been effected, taking the thing from 420kW up to 435kW. Peak torque remains at 650Nm from the same 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine whose sound note is too ecstatic for words. AMG says the SLS AMG GT can now rush off to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds, an improvement of 0.1 seconds, while top speed is 317km/h.

Some nice gear in the form of 19-inch wheels on 265/35 R 19 tyres at the front, 20-inchers at the back on with 295/30 R 20, darker headlights, a gloss black finish on the exterior mirrors and the fins on the bonnet are just some of the changes. We also see some seriously attractive stitching in the interior, coupled with some plush Alcantara touches right throughout the cabin.

The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT should be at South African dealerships at the end of the year.
