McLaren Automotive
is apparently boosting the power output of its only supercar so far, the MP4-12C. The gullwinged rocket is powered by a 3.8-litre twin turbo motor working out a sweaty 441kW and 600Nm of torque. But wait, there’s more! Now you can get just a bit
more of those kiloWatts, but only if you ask nicely.
The new power output will increase to a bodacious 460kW. According to McLaren, the power
increase was actuated through the re-engineering
of the mapping system via the car’s computer. It will result in improved
throttle responsiveness without
affecting fuel efficiency and C02
emissions.
Apparently there are other improvements that are being enabled, thanks to customer requests. They
will consist mostly of interior
appointments, including an upgraded sound
system and a programmable engine note.
No word from Daytona
Group in Sandton (importers of McLaren cars) yet on whether local customers
can also sip on these extra horses.
*Update: Daytona has confirmed the power upgrade will be available to South African customers as well.
