Nissan is about
to expand its brand lineup by one
more, by reviving an old favourite name.
The Datsun badge is making a return
to the public fore. First used in 1931,
the Datsun brand later became one of the most respected around the world when cars like the 240 Z (aka Fairlady)
bore its name.
At some point in the early 1980s, Nissan began rebranding its Datsuns as Nissans, and eventually
completely eradicated it. But yesterday
Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan and Infiniti, confirmed his company was
bringing Datsun back to life. Terms and conditions apply. One of these is that
only the developing world will
receive Datsun cars. By developing they mean India, Indonesia and Russia. Nothing on Mzansi though.
