Toyota South Africa is gearing
up for a very busy year. Kicking things off will be the new Etios range, cars that are meant to
fill the gap left by the departure
of the Tazz over 5 years ago. While Toyota
has twice tried to cover this void – first with Yaris Zen and lately with Aygo
– it appears customers aren’t buying into these models as they did with lovely Tazz.
Built in India, Etios then becomes the new Tazz. It will be
offered with two body styles, a sedan and a hatch. We expect the hatch to be the more popular. In some countries it is
offered with either a 1.4-litre or a 1.5-litre petrol. Mzansi is getting the 1.5-litre with 66kW and 132Nm of
torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual
gearbox.
Etios launches in
Mzansi during May sometime. Toyota plans
on and is working extremely hard in ensuring that the days of Volkswagen Polo Vivo ruling the
passenger car sales are long gone. Perhaps it will be third time lucky for them.

Looks cheap and nasty. Why do this route mara?
You know the Renault tried this thing with the Logan and the other one but it didn't work. So even Toyota will fail, these Polos are strong.
