SUZUKI TO SHOWCASE SMALL CARS IN TOKYO

Suzuki will showcase its unparalleled expertise in the development, design and production of small cars at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.

Taking centre stage will be the Regina – Suzuki’s vision of a next-generation global compact car. The Regina focuses on reducing mass and improving aerodynamics to improve performance and efficiency.
 

At 730kg, the Regina weighs no more than a mini car, despite its much more generous compact car dimensions. Advanced aerodynamics also ensure that it achieves a drag coefficient of at least 10% lower than Suzuki’s current compact cars.

As a result, the petrol-powered Regina is able to achieve an astonishing fuel consumption figure of just 3.1 litres/100 km, using the JC08 test cycle, with CO2 emissions as low as 70 g/km, measured using the New European Driving Cycle.

Another innovative take on the motoring future to be unveiled at the Tokyo expo is the Suzuki Q-concept, a two-seater micro car that’s been designed to fill the gap between conventional motorcycles and motor cars.

Aimed at urban commuters who travel within a radius of no more than 10 km, the Q-concept is only 2.5 metres long, and offers a variety interior configurations.

By default, it allows a tandem seating arrangement for two, but it can also carry a parent in front and two toddlers at the back. Alternatively, the rear section can be used for cargo only, turning the Q-concept into the perfect urban delivery vehicle.

The Q-concept is smaller and more manoeuvrable than a car, but more comfortable and versatile than a motorcycle, thus creating a new, affordable and user-friendly mobility solution for urban environments.

Suzuki’s theme of innovation at the Tokyo Motor Show continues with the Swift EV Hybrid, a compact electric vehicle based on the current Swift hatchback, but equipped with an engine-driven generator.

The vehicle uses an electrically powered range extender that allows the Swift EV to be driven for distances of up to 30 km on battery power alone, while it also reduces overall fuel consumption by extending the range of the car during normal operation.

Tokyo will also mark the world premiere of the Swift Sport in five-door hatchback form, following the reveal of the three-door Swift Sport at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year.

Offering a high-performance, high-efficiency engine, and a sports-tuned suspension, the new Swift Sport delivers thrilling dynamics whilst retaining the Swift’s reputation for efficiency and practicality.

The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show takes place from 2 to 11 December at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre.
