Following sister brand Toyota’s unveiling of its 86 (or GT 86 in Europe), Subaru has now shown us full pictures of the mechanically identical
BRZ. While we weren’t exactly bowled
over by the 86’s styling, we reckon the Scooby
has done an even worse job, preferring to stay clean and staid. The car looks like it comes straight out of the 1980s.
Like we stated earlier, mechanically the two are the same. That
means a 2.0-litre boxer engine with
natural aspiration, making off with 147kW
and 205Nm of torque. Perhaps an STI version will bring in the turbo and shake off cars like the Scirocco R. New for Subaru is the
rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup, this from
a company that trumpeted all-wheel-drive (AWD)
as the future of motoring. Again, a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic will
be made available to buyers.
Subaru should be launching the BRZ in Mzansi sometime in 2012.
