CHRYSLER YPSILON ARRIVES IN THE UK

Since the buyout of Chrysler of the USA by Fiat of Italy, several Fiat models have crossed the bounds to become Chryslers. Now it’s the turn of the Lancia Ypsilon, which has recently been introduced to the UK as a Chrysler Ypsilon. Rebadging 2012 style!

The car is fitted with a long list of nice big-car features such as Magic Parking, xenon headlights, Blue&Me -TomTom LIVE, the Smart Fuel System and a 360° 500-Watt sound system with four 40W musical Dome tweeters, four 80W musical Neodymium mid-woofers and a digital eight-channel amplifier to count a few. There will be 16 exterior paint colour combinations of which four are bi-colour, five different upholstery trims, and three types of alloy wheels to choose from.

Two engines are fitted, the one is a 0.9 litre (875cc) TwinAir motor with a very impressive 63kW and 145Nm of torque, matched to 97 g/km in C02 emissions. The bigger 1.2-litre develops less power, at 51kW and torque (102Nm) than the smaller TwinAir. C02 emissions are also less impressive at 115 g/km. Both models are matted to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Diesel fans aren’t left out of the box as they can specify the 1.3-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel with 71kW and 200Nm of torque, starting from 1500rpm.

Chrysler South Africa is definitely looking at bringing the Ypsilon over here, just as soon as someone in their marketing department figures out how to pronounce the name.
