Fiat the group, is currently developing a new 1.8-litre turbo engine that will revolutionise the way it does business
in the near future. The 4-cylinder,
direct-injection motor begins production in early 2013 and will be fitted into
a whole range of cars that are branded Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Chrysler among others.
Several power figures will be achieved, up to about 225kW. Yes, from a 1.8-litre. Think about
the fact that BMW’s twin turbo 3.0-litre and Mercedes-Benz’s 3.5-litre V6 kick out the same amount
of thrust. Cars set to benefit from it include the upcoming 4C sports coupe and the next-generation
Mito.
“This is an extremely important step for Alfa Romeo, as we
continue to reposition our brand and
prepare it for global distribution. The United
States remains our primary objective as we prepare for a 2013 introduction
of our models,” Harald J. Wester,
Fiat’s Chief Technology Officer and head of the Alfa Romeo and Maserati Brands
was quoted as saying.
