NEXT HYUNDAI I30 RENDERED, READY FOR FRANKFURT

Hyundai will, at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) in September, unveil a concept car that points towards the next-generation i30 hatch. Called the GDS Concept so far, it will eventually be developed and launched as the i30 sometime in 2012.

Looking all fluidic and European, the concept picture scarily resembles the current Opel Astra, especially the side and rear profiles. It was designed at Hyundai’s Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany by a team led by Hyundai Motor Europe Chief Designer Thomas Bürkle.

“When designing the new i30,” said Bürkle. “We used strong, fluid lines to sculpt a car which looks athletic while exuding a sense of constant motion, even when stationary.  From the rendering, you can see how we managed to give the car a bold stance, transmitting a confident attitude through sporty characteristics and dynamic proportions.  In this way, the car is very close to the recently unveiled i40, and we want people to recognise the Hyundai design DNA on those two models.”

We expect a strong engine lineup when the car debuts on the streets, including very torquey turbo diesels and a small petrol turbo to shake it up against the likes of VW’s TSIs, Renault’s Tces and others.
