Audi has upgraded its 1.8-litre TFSI engine for the European market. Logic dictates the same will happen for the South African buyer within the next few months. Currently sticking out 118kW, the new motor now makes a full-on 125kW at 3800rpm. It is still a 4-cylinder with a new single turbo whining through it.
Maximum torque produced is 320Nm between 1400rpm and 3700rpm. That is a 70Nm increase from the current one. Audi says fuel consumption on the other hand, has been cut by 21% to just 5.7 litres per 100km, with corresponding C02 emissions reading 134 g/km. All this plus the fact that it is 3.5kg lighter than its predecessor make the new Audi 1.8-litre TFSI a class-leader.
Expect to find it in the upcoming A4 facelift (2012), A5, A3 and others.
