This year marks 35 years of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and its parent has announced this special GTI Edition 35 as part of its celebrations. The car debuts in Germany on the 1st of June at a price of €30 425 (R293 400).
Central to the car is an upgraded 2.0-litre turbo engine that, instead of developing the usual 155kW, now makes a pushy 173kW. There are of course visual differences, including a new front bumper, “35” decals inside and on door sills.
Before you get all excited, unfortunately the Edition 35 will not be sold in South Africa, only in Europe, presumably because its power figure is too close to our underpowered Golf R of 188kW.

Good move VW otherwise this thing would have cost about R350000.
