HYUNDAI I40 SHOWN BEFORE GENEVA DEBUT

Hyundai’s relentless rush towards the number One spot is apparently coming along quite nicely. To add momentum to the cause is the new i40 that’s pictured here. In South Africa the i40 is called the Sonata. It will be fully revealed at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show in March.

Without sounding too obvious, the i40 is a wagon variant, and Hyundai is pinning its hopes on it as a firecracker in the hotly contested European wagon market. We were told that while it shares some of its DNA with the Sonata, the two are quite different as the i40 is tailored to specific European tastes and preferences.

Right on cue, the car features a 1.7-litre turbo diesel engine with C02 emissions of just 113 g/km, according to Hyundai.
