RIPPING RENAULT RS SPIED IN SANDTON CITY

While you were fast asleep I went out to the Sandton City shopping centre for some sushi. While trying to find parking in the underground lot, my eyes caught this silver hatchback parked in one of the bays. The front badge looked familiar and upon closer inspection it revealed itself to be a Renault Megane.

Even closer inspection gave us our latest scoop. The car was the Renault Megane Renault Sport or RS. Renault South Africa has confirmed it will be launching it here but the
launch is still weeks or even months away. This model was probably being homologated or being tested for local conditions before the market introduction. So of course our Nokia Navigator came out clicking. Unfortunately a car nearby blew its alarm and attracted the attentions of a security guard before I could take better-quality shots, so this is all I could manage. Sorry.

Renault is going all out with the Megane RS in order to capture a greater share of the highly-contested hot hatch market currently dominated by the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Ford Focus ST. more powerful than both these adversaries (184kW), the RS also features some technical witchcraft to make it be the best handler in its segment. I reckon a base price of around R320 000 will be the order of the day when it finally shows its face in Mzansi.
