Plenty of people love the BMW X3 compact SUV. Most of these good folks however, cannot afford the X3 anymore, what with prices starting at just under R420 000 for the baseline 2.0D and going up to R560 000 standard. The solution by BMW is to introduce the X1, an SUV that is even smaller than the X3. These pictures you see here may be covered up like spy pictures, however they are not. They are actually official pictures from BMW itself which show a glimpse of what the X1 looks like.
Naturally the X1 is related to the 1 Series as much as the X3 is related to the 3 Series. It will share engines with the 1, engines that include a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and other rumoured small turbo petrols.
BMW will launch the X1 later this year in Europe with South African sales expected to kick off some time in 2010. Until the Audi Q3 hits the scene BMW will once again stand alone in this baby premium SUV market.
