CHEAP LOGAN FOR MZANSI

Four years after its launch and international success, Renault South Africa will bring the Logan to the market in November. Given the current challenging economic situation, Renault believes that the introduction of the Logan - a sturdy, spacious and competitively-priced sedan - is well-timed and will fill the gap of a value-for-money sedan in the market.

“While hatchbacks are more popular in our market - which is what prompted us to invest in the local manufacturing of the Sandero - we believe there is still a strong case for bringing a well-priced priced sedan like the Logan to market,” says Xavier Gobille, Managing Director of Renault South Africa. “Although the potential of sedans in general may not be as high as that of hatches in the AB segments, in light of the current economic climate, the argument was sufficiently compelling for us to reach this decision.”

Currently the starting price for a quality built, modestly spec’ed B-segment sedan is in the region of R120 000 while the price tag for a comparable C-segment sedan starts off around R150 000, a price level which is inaccessible to many buyers.

The Renault Logan will be imported from the Mahindra plant in Nashik, India - a joint venture between Renault and the Indian automotive giant.

Global success

Debuting in Romania in September 2004, the Logan sold an unprecedented 15 000 units within just three months. Since then, it has seen untold international success and is now sold in five continents and 59 countries.

Fundamental strengths

The Logan’s generous dimensions are one of its fundamental strengths and its interior space remains unrivalled in the B-segment. Indeed, its size is more akin to C-segment norms at 4.2m in length and 1.74m in width.

The rear shoulder room is more readily associated with larger sedans and the 510 litre boot capacity is unparalleled in the B-segment and even bigger than in most C-segment cars.

Built to be sturdy and reliable, the vehicles have been subjected to extreme conditions to ensure that they are able to cope with the varying demands of the international markets.

The body work is highly resistant to corrosion and has been adapted to handle a range of climatic conditions from extreme heat to cold as well as extremely poor road surfaces.

The Logan’s technical simplicity and build quality makes it a cost efficient vehicle to run affording even more savings for the owner. Renault SA has not priced the Logan yet but it would be within the region of between R75 000 to R90 000.
