Maserati CEO Harald Wester has revealed some new details
about the company's proposed mid-engine sports car.
Speaking with EVO, Wester said the model - which could revive the GranSport moniker - would be "something like the Alfa Romeo 4C (pictured) but for Maserati." It would measure approximately 4.4 meters long and feature a carbon fibre monocoque which could enable the car to weigh about 1 200 kg.
Power will reportedly be provided by a 4.7-liter V8 engine with 338kW. However, Wester hinted the car could also be equipped with a turbocharged V8 and a substantially similar version of the 4.7-liter V8.
According to Wester, “I want this car to be better to drive than a 911 Turbo, but I also want it to cost less. We won't limit the production of this car, but I'd like to think that we will sell, let's say, between 1 500 and 2 000 units a year.”
The model hasn't been approved for production, but it could be green-lighted shortly and go into production in 2015.
