On the same year that Mercedes-Benz
unveiled the all-new ML-Class, the company now announces its latest high-performance rendition. Welcome the
ML 63 AMG, the most powerful ML ever mass produced. Wish I could
say we’ll see it in Mzansi in 2012 for sure, but I don’t know. However,
indications are strong that we will.
Firstly the engine is the new 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 motor
making a heady 386kW at 5250rpm, while
maximum torque is 700Nm, coming in
between 1750rpm and 5000rpm. They say it will sprint from 0 – 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, reaching a limited top end
of 250km/h. An AMG Performance Package
is however, available to those not entirely satisfied with these figures. For these
bravehearts with black holes for
pockets is 410kW available at
5750rpm and peak torque of 759Nm. With
that Package it sprints from 0 – 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. Top speed there is 280km/h.
The ML 63 AMG uses a 7-speed
automatic gearbox which helps it achieve the claimed fuel consumption
numbers of 14.7 litres per 100km. Power
is sent to all four 20-inch wheels,
with 265/45 R 20 high-performance tyres making road contact.
Comfort levels are enhanced by the standard garb of, among other things, AMG illuminated door sills, a
Harman Kardon sound system, a power
sunroof, USB port and AMG sports pedals
in brushed stainless steel and rubber studs.
