Ahead of its first public appearance in SA at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS), the Lexus LFA has blitzed the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time.
Appropriately named, the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package was tested on 31 August over the grueling 20.8km track to become one of the fastest production cars around the hallowed 154-corner circuit. Driven by Akira Iida on standard Bridgestone Potenza RE070 road tyres, the LFA stopped the clocks at seven minutes 14 seconds (7:14 minutes).
The LFA Nürburgring Package is included in the limited production run of 500 LFAs. The more track-focused package includes a Carbon-Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) front spoiler and fixed rear wing to enhance aerodynamic performance. Specific wheels and tuned suspension improve manoeuvrability, while an additional 8kW is available over the standard LFA’s 412kW.
Three Lexus LFAs are destined for South African shores. The first arrived in May this year, while delivery of the second car is imminent. The third car will only be built next year, but Lexus has brought one in specifically to be one of its prize attractions at JIMS: it will be a rare opportunity for South African enthusiasts to see the bespoke supercar up close.
