FRANKFURT 2011: NEXT HUFFING FORD FIESTA ST PREVIEWED

After what feels like a decade without it, Ford has finally shown us what the next Fiesta ST will look like. The ST Concept is essentially the real deal, you can bet your last pair of clean undies on that. While the previous car had a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine with 110kW, this one brings updated weaponry to the field.

And we know who’s in the field already: Volkswagen Polo GTI, Renault Clio RS and Opel Corsa OPC. All of which want to make little boy racers as happy as an Oreo in a glass of milk. From our driving experiences in all those cars, their owners are very very happy people indeed.

With new ST, Ford is going turbo crazy by installing a new 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbo engine with a kicking 132kW of power, as well as 240Nm of torque. They say it will move from 0 – 100km/h in less than 7 seconds, topping off nicely at 220km/h. The front wheels are driven by a 6-speed manual gearbox.

One thing that will frighten its competitors is the snarling front grille with a honeycomb mesh design and trapezoidal tendencies. Complementing the side profile are 17-inch alloy wheels, while the twin exhaust pipes mix in well with the rear diffuser. The interior has a Recaro sports seat set for the front occupants.
