TOYOTA JAPAN CUTS PRODUCTION IN HALF AS TSUNAMI EFFECTS TAKE HOLD

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) offer their most-sincere sympathies to those affected by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake.

As TMC continues to address its production situation in Japan following the disaster, it has decided that vehicle production from May 10 to June 3 will proceed at approximately 50% of normal. TMC will decide on production after this period after assessing the situation of its suppliers and other related companies.

“Based on the information we have received from TMC we will subsequently adjust our production plans for May,” says Dr. Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota South Africa Motors.

“TSAM will adjust its production schedule, taking into account the impact on the workforce and our dealer network. This adjustment might lead to some inconvenience for customers and we would like to apologise in advance for this.”

The adjustment of production volumes will not influence the duration of the planned Easter shut down. The scheduled 21 April to 4 May shut down was planned before the Great East Japan Earthquake and will be used for plant upgrades and maintenance.

Production will continue until the planned shut down and production will resume afterwards. TSAM will only make announcements with regards to adjusted volumes once it has been discussed with all stakeholders involved.

The earthquake put a big impact in Japan and car industries as well. But i am sure Toyota will still manage all the things and increase its production unit.
