PEUGEOT 5008 COMING SOON

Peugeot is gearing up for the launch of its premium people-carrier, the 5008. The French MPV (multi-purpose-vehicle) can sit up to 7 passengers while carrying a decent amount of luggage at the back. Its presence should stimulate a market that’s dominated by such names as Caddy, Scenic and Verso.

“The Peugeot 5008 is our new product offering in the MVP segment,” states Jean-Francois Bacos, managing director of Peugeot South Africa. “This compact seven-seater people carrier offers a number of significant benefits over its established rivals, and will enhance and strengthen Peugeot’s growing presence in the local family car market.”

Five double o eight as it will be pronounced, features a simple yet elegant design with some luxurious chrome (as defined by America) details. A large panoramic glass roof covers a 1.69m2 area, thus allowing vast amounts of natural light into the spacious cabin. Depending on the seat configuration, load capacity can range from a standard 758 litres right up to a Kimberly hole-sized 2 506 litres.

Still on the interior, comfort items like a multimedia pack for the second seat row which includes a DVD player and screens, is included as standard for the top of the range model.

At launch we will see two engines, being the petrol 1.6-litre THP with 115kW – as seen in the MINI as well as different Peugeot/ Citroen products – and 240Nm of torque, and a 2.0 HDI turbo diesel engine worth 110kW and 340Nm. Two gearboxes are on offer, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Prices for the new Peugeot 5008 will start at R282 000.
