Honda showed the world what it’s been working on for the past couple of years: the new facelift Accord range. Unwrapped at Geneva 2011 last week, the Accord has made subtle exterior changes to the current model in order to keep up with the times. Excitingly the differences are sharper, resulting in a sportier front end and more pronunciation at the back.
The cabin is decked out with new improved finish on the seats and door linings. A metal look is employed on the door inlays, gear lever surround and hand brake among others. The Type S, which we don’t get in SA, is even more of a looker.
Honda says its 2.2 i-DTEC turbo diesel engine has been improved to the extent of being able to deliver C02 emissions of 9 g/km less than before for the 6-speed manual and 11 g/km for the automatic. Power remains at 110kW.
Additionally the new Accord features Active Cornering Lights which swivel to a small degree as the steering wheel is turned for cornering. High beam support is included with the bi-xenon package for the European market. It automatically dims the headlights if they were on “bright” when it detects an oncoming car, and returns them to bright as soon as that car passes by.
Honda SA is expected to showcase the facelift Accord at the 2011 JIMS in October.
