TOYOTA CLEARED OF ACCELERATOR ACCIDENT ACCUSATIONS

A joint report between the US National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) today cleared Toyota of any concerns that its Electronic Throttle Control system was at fault in reported cases of unintended acceleration.

The report, released today by the US Department of Transport, clearly indicated that no vehicle-based cause of unintended acceleration was found, other than those addressed by Toyota in recent recall programmes.

Following the statement Toyota Motor Corporation stated that the result of the US Department of Transport’s investigation confirms the reliability of their electronic throttle control systems.

“This very thorough investigation by NASA and the NHTSA has confirmed the quality of our vehicles and we believe it will contribute to our programme of listening to our customers and restoring their trust in the safety and reliability of our vehicles,” says Dr. Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota South Africa Motors and a Managing Officer of Toyota Motor Corporation.

“We will continue to focus on quality and on ensuring that our vehicles offer the highest possible safety standard, and in doing so, also offer peace of mind to our customers.”
