GOLF BLUEMOTION CAN DO 1300KM ON ONE TANK!

The most fuel efficient Volkswagen Golf has just been announced by Volkswagen South Africa. The Golf TDI BlueMotion is said to be able to run for a total of 1 300km on a full tank of fuel. This is about the same distance as beween the southern outskirts of Johannesburg and the entry towns of Cape Town. All that from a 55 litre diesel tank.

How does it do it? The Golf BlueMotion is fitted with a new, four-cylinder 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine that makes 77kW and peak torque of 250Nm from a lot 1500rpm. VW says it will perform to the effect of 0 – 100km/h in 11.3 seconds and stop running at 190km/h on a flat road. Of course these aren’t the numbers one really looks for in a car like this. What you want to know is, how fuel efficient is it and how “clean“ it is.

Like i said earlier, it is capable of doing 1300km on a one tank of diesel fuel, which means an average of 3.8 litres per 100km. C02 emissions are rated at an equivalent 99g/km. Not only do these make it the most frugal Golf ever created, but they also make it one of the cleanest cars in the market today.

Technologies paried with the engine to enable such performance include a gear-shift indicator, which dignals to the driver the optimum gear change points for saving fuel. There is an energy recovery system that recaptures lost energies through braking, a lower suspension system, rolling resistance tyres and a Stop/Start technique for traffic driving.

The new Golf range comes standard with a 5 year/90 000km Service Plan, 3 year/120 000km warranty and a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty.

Service Interval are 15 000km.

Pricing for the Golf TDI BlueMotion starts at R265 600.
