The all-new Suzuki Swift has received yet another international accolade. The award-winning compact hatch, introduced in Japan and Europe only a few months ago, has been named 2011 Car of the Year by the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC).
The new Swift is Suzuki’s fourth RJC Car of the Year, and the second for the Swift nameplate. The Swift currently on sale in South Africa won the award in 2006 for its superior performance, class-leading comfort, comprehensive standard equipment and value for money.
More than 1,8-million units were sold in 124 countries around the world, and it attracted a long list of awards during its production cycle.
The all-new Swift, due for launch in SA during 2011, went on sale in Japan in August this year, with the European release a month later. The new compact hatchback has already won high praise from various sources, with highlights including exceptional handling, interior quality, ride comfort and dynamic appeal.
The RJC Car of the Year Award was instituted in 1991. The 2010 award was limited to cars launched between November 2009 and October 2010, with six models being afforded finalist status. The new Suzuki Swift was crowned as the 2001 RJC Car of the Year on 16 November.
“This is the second major Car of the Year title for the new Swift,” says Kazuyuki Yamashita, managing director of Suzuki Auto SA.
“It further underlines the excellence of our new subcompact hatchback, and augurs well for the reception we hope it will receive when this impressive hatchback makes its SA debut next year.”
